SAS 70 | Pricing and Cost Factors for Type I and Type II Audits

What does a SAS 70 audit cost? I’ve been asked this question many, many times as a SAS 70 auditor, as many of the engagements that i work on for our firm requires input from the very auditors who will engage with the service organization to perform this specialized audit.

As far as cost is concerned, the above link will give you an excellent idea about how pricing has come about for SAS 70 audits, who the major providers are for Type I and Type II audits, and what benefits and drawbacks are there to a specific type of firm conducting  your SAS 70 audit.

Please also keep in mind that comparing SAS 70 audit costs from one firm to another is almost like comparing apples to oranges as a number of issues come into play, such as the following:

1. Type of audit being performed ( A Type I, Type II, a general controls audit, a specialized audit that covers essential business process controls)

2. Auditor methodology in regards to frameworks used, how testing is conducted, what constitutes an “exception” for the audit, etc.
